The odds that the Trump presidency survives in tact after the November 2026 election are low. Sure there will be all kinds of residuals, episodic bursts of threat and promise, executive orders of diverse kinds but a defeat in even one branch of government will signal Trump's ultimate demise as king of the hill. I'm looking forward to that of course and will do whatever I can to help bring it about. But in American politics it's a rearguard action begging the question: What's next?
If Trump tries to gin up a physical resistance to an orderly transition of power beyond the electoral meddling now ongoing, he won't be successful. It might be different if the nation and his presidency were thriving but it's obvious to one and all this isn't the case. The problem Republicans have is that the men in waiting are all tarred with the same brush - of obsequious cowtowing to the President's demands and commands. Whether the person in question is Vance, Rubio, or (God forbid) Hegseth - they and anyone else mucked up with Trumpism/MAGAism will emerge as dead losers. Nobody wants an obsequious panderer at the top of the power political food chain and all of the above qualify in spades. EG, "Little Marco" reemerging as "Micro Marco". We especially don't vibe to the tune of a shattered movement disintegrating before our eyes. -----------------------------------
